The R&D Hardware manager – is part of the R&D TEM management team and manages one or more disciplines. The group contains typically out of 7-15 direct reports. R&D Hardware manager leads the engineering team to optimize the engineering role and develop team technical competencies in line with the R&D engineering mission and deliverables.

  • Lead the engineering department to fulfill the engineering mission
  • Ability to set and create right working climate
  • Create and manages the local engineering strategy in line with the global strategy and translates the strategy into operational plans
  • Responsible for continuous improvements process and optimization of engineering related processes
  • Identification and development of successors on all relevant positions
  • May lead complex programs or projects or be involved as technical expert
  • Demonstrates good independent judgment and thinking to develop creative ways or in selecting known methods and techniques for obtaining solutions
  • Acts as an adviser to subordinates and responsible for to meet schedules, and/or resolve problems for function or functions of large, complex projects
  • Acts as an adviser to peers and project resources to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems
  • Ensures that activities are carried out according to the principle of “Customer focus in all that we do”
  • Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise interacts with supervisors, group leaders, customers and peers. Some interactions may involve Sr. management
  • Adhere to work safety, fire safety, hygiene of work and other regulatory standards. Clean and maintain work area and consigned tools.

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • University degree in a technical discipline, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills
  • A seasoned, experienced professional with advanced technical knowledge & conceptual thinking or management skills
  • Advanced knowledge in a technical, scientific or specialized field build on an understanding of theoretical concepts and principals and their context
  • Knowledge is normally acquired through professional or academic qualification or through extensive practical experience
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining cooperation of cross-functional, multi-cultural groups and sites without damaging relationships
  • Must have ability to obtain a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required (up to 25% of working time)
  • Fluent in English and local language (verbal and in writing)
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills

Specific requirements:

  • Typically requires 10 years of experience in high-tech industry environment in service, development or manufacturing
  • Demonstrated experience participating in or managing cross-site and cross-functional projects
  • Ability of mentoring team members on technical and process level
  • Demonstrated experience with process improvements and methods. Experience with use of statistical process control and statistical problem solving methods, including FMEA, Six-Sigma methods etc., is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear and concise analysis of data and basic experimental methods, test protocols and procedures that include multiple factors
  • Self-starter who is also highly productive when not supervised
  • Must function as a productive team member at all time
