The Project/Program Manager is responsible for coordination and timely execution of development projects, managing the activities of cross-functional engineering disciplines. The principal focus of this role is managing the successful development, integration and delivery of subsystems design, software implementation, system integration and test according to customer specifications for industry-leading capital equipment systems. Key interactions will be required with various groups (i.e., marketing, internal and external subsystem vendors, science, system, software, design, electronics, applications, field service, operations) across geographically dispersed locations including Europe and US based Engineering teams.

What will you do?

The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:

  • Typically requires a University Degree in Physics, Engineering or related discipline. MS or PhD in these disciplines and prior design experience preferred.
  • Typically requires 5+ years proven experience in systems or subsystems program design; experience in a leadership role is preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex engineering programs/projects through a defined and rigorous product management process leading to launch of a successful product in a relevant technical field.
  • Proven ability to build consensus among key stakeholders that may not be under his/her management control.
  • Strong communication ability is required due to the cross-functional nature of this role. An ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences is helpful in this role.
  • Ability to manage staff, to assign specific duties, and to create a constructive and cooperative working relationship.
  • Knowledge of using PMBOK standards and principles as well as the experience with using Agile/Scrum and/or Critical Chain project management methodologies is highly desired.
  • Strong communicative skills verbally and in writing. Fluent in English.

  • Knows strategy in the organization, overall priority setting and constraints which may influence execution of the program
  • Searches for synergy between products, reuse of already developed solutions.
  • Manages projects (either directly of via other Project Managers) which are under his responsibility, knows and reports their status and expenditure forecast regularly.
  • Initiates corrective actions when parts of the program are falling behind schedule, are overspending the budget or don’t meet key specifications.
  • Manages escalations from the field: fact finding, starting corrective actions, priority setting
  • Keeps overview and understanding of technologies which are available inside and outside the organization and which could be utilized on developed products, is able to evaluate the effect of new technologies also from customer’s perspective, influences technological roadmaps within the company
  • Works closely with product marketing teams to develop a robust and integrated product roadmap, understands the use cases and applications, knows business figures
