The Mission:

The Engineering Data Management group (EDM) maintains Product Data Management (PDM) knowledge base and executes selection, prioritization and implementation of Engineering Changes (ECO) within the Engineering Organization at Thermo Fisher. The Internship Engineering Specialist works in cooperation with department Change Leaders (project managers and coordinators) and Change Owners (engineering specialists) to coordinate and execute Engineering Changes after products are transferred to volume production through the product end of life.

The Position:

The EDM Change Engineering Intern supports ECO activities with primary focus on Scanning Electron Microscope systems (SEM), Small Dual Beam Electron Microscope systems (SDB) and Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) systems.

He works in close cooperation with change leaders being responsible for overall process, engineering streams results and KPIs and assist to change owner engineers with execution of technical tasks. He reviews, investigates, executes and implements change requests and follows change process rules for all Thermo Fisher engineering data.

The position collaborates closely with the Engineering, Product Lifecycle Manager (PLM), R&D, Manufacturing, Logistics, Purchasing, Quality and Global Technical Services (GTS) groups within Thermo Fisher. The intern helps to maintain the integrity of the engineering data throughout the product lifecycle. The Engineering Data Management (EDM) department consists of 30 people globally, and 10+ of these people are onsite in Brno EDM.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Working in compliance with legislation and IMS
  • Creation of new technical product documentation (TPD) and updating existing documentation based on processed engineering changes
  • Works with EDM, Logistics, Sourcing, NPI Engineering, GTS, PLM, Quality and R&D to ensure proper resource allocation to execute Engineering Change Orders (ECO)
  • Coordinates prioritization and execution of low level tasks within ECO and ECR processing
  • May complete ECOs for which he/she has experience and knowledge to execute
  • Participation on more complex project activities being executed within worldwide EDM organization
  • Documentation checking and closure (archiving)

Requirements:

  • University student either bachelor or master level program
  • Technical field of study with focus on mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred
  • Basic orientation in engineering documentation including schematics, drawings, blue prints and related principles (norms, standards, best practices)
  • Passion for technics and technology with an ambition to get a work experience in HI-TECH company
  • Must demonstrate ability to create technical documentation and engineering reports using common Microsoft Office and Acrobat applications
  • Fluency in English and local language (verbal and in writing)
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to cooperate with peers and other engineering departments are desired
