In Thermo Fisher Scientific Brno, we develop and produce high-tech electron microscopes and spectrometers. Our devices are involved in research of ZIKA virus, HIV, and they also enable mobile phones to get smaller. Our work contributes to making the world healthier, cleaner and safer. We are the biggest production site of electron microscopes worldwide, following a tradition over 70 years long. There are many experts in physics, electronics, software, mechanical engineering and logistics among us.

The Intern - Applications Engineer works at the intersection of the development, sales support and the scientific community. This person continually collaborates with Applications, Technology, Systems and Software groups to ensure that system requirements are well understood, developed, integrated and thoroughly tested.

Due to the extensive integration of hardware and software in all company products the successful Intern - Application Engineer develops detailed in-depth understanding of the application of our tools and the implications of using and testing software when complex hardware interactions are at stake.

Key responsibilities

• Participation in advanced development projects through internal project management program.
• Gaining detailed knowledge of our systems with focus on applications.
• Participation in defining the customer needs for new products development.
• Contributing to scientific and other publications (papers, conference proceedings, applications notes).
• Providing customer and market feedback to R&D and Product Managers.
• Collaboration with other company departments to ensure system requirements are well understood, developed, integrated and thoroughly tested.
• Maintaining and nurturing a pool of microscopy solution expertise (technology, methodology).
• Translating customer needs into functional solutions.

Who do we look for:

• Bachelor or MSc in Science or similar.
• Experience as an operator/user of an SEM, SDB or micro-CT system is an advantage.
• Knowledge of 3D visualization software (Avizo, Amira) is an advantage.
• Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
• Result oriented, ability to work under pressure.
• Active knowledge of English (>B1). Ability to learn the Czech language.
